Accomodation in Mérida

(for Accomodation elsewhere see Getting There)

There are many excellent Boutique Hotels in Mérida - all within walking distance of my house. They make an excellent base for guests visiting Mérida while I am staying at my house. They are also pretty inexpensive at around £40 ($90) a night. Among my favourites are:
Hotel Montejo - www.hotelmontejo.com

This charming small hotel is full of character with its typical interior arched courtyard and clean air-conditioned rooms. It is very reasonable price-wise and is priced in pesos which is good for Brits - a double room with aircon is currently around 600 pesos a night which is approx £35 and this includes breakfast. It is only a short walk from my house.

Run by 2 gorgeous Cuban Guyz who have created a comfortable and tasteful atmosphere with a roof top terrace and plunge pool. Very competetive rates and a good location. This is a good place to stay if you want to linger and spend a long relaxing vacation based in Mérida.

If you are looking for a different experience then an English friend of mine who lives in Mérida, Elizabeth Arnott, owns accomodation with a difference in a small village just one hour away. She has constructed 3 beautiful "palapas" (thatched traditional buildings) and a swimming pool close to 3  "cenotes" (underground freshwater lakes) regarded as some of the finest in the whole Yucatan.  This is your chance to see traditional Mayan village life. You are close to nature and will experience the sounds of the village..the sounds of the birds and animals and at night the stillness and beauty of the star-studded sky - with no light pollution. A magic and unique experience. The blogspot above has full details and photos and you can contact Elizabeth direct at her email - earnott@sureste.com
